Changing a petroleum storage tank’s status to “Temporarily Out-Of-Use” (TOU) takes more than just completing the TOU form.

Required documents include verification that the tank is drained to less than an inch of liquid in the tank, all vent lines are open and functioning, all other lines, pumps, manways, and ancillary equipment must be capped and secured, and if applicable the cathodic protection certification.

Also, one of the following must be submitted for review: a site assessment, twelve (12) continuous periods of passing release detection, or a passing tank tightness test.
